It's Chile Down Here. That is the title of our latest picture story for the international travel magazine Arizona Highways. Penned by excellent freelance writer Kathleen Walker of Tucson, the story appears this month in the print edition and the online edition. The story behind the story goes much deeper. During the six months of photography for this story, my partner and son Ryan and I lived, breathed and ate chiles. There was an osmosis process which sparked a number of chile-related projects for Ryan, me and my other son Cameron who joined this creative team. Our photo company just released The Arizona Chile Poster, a colorful fine-art poster which makes a great gift. This week, we are going live with a new website, EatMoreChiles.com. Full of photographs, chile facts and great recipes. It's a fun place. Also, Cameron has produced a short video of our location photography while photographing this project. A TOWN CALLED NOWHERE, ARIZONA
In The Beginning
You see, I and five brothers were raised on an Iowa farm 50 years ago by two incredible parents. But then, I up and moved to Arizona to become a photographer. This profession has been exceptionally good to me. Depending on the workload and the season, I reside in a number of spots: Nowhere, Tempe or Flagstaff, Arizona or Goldfield, Iowa or Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. As a part-time resident of the tiny town called Nowhere, I have a unique perspective on the folks who live and work in a place which time has passed by. And, I'd like to share this fascinating place with you. When I'm somewhere other than Nowhere, I'm likely on assignment either for a corporate client or Arizona Highways magazine. All along, you'll come to know Nowhere, Arizona and its common people with uncommon problems and personal achievements. Early dispatches offer some background into the town itself while newer dispatches will reveal the character of the townsfolk and my photo travels.
